Trailrides, Rodeos, and Zydecos
Plan A Visit
Nothing brings to mind the Old West like a modern-day trailride. The Taylor-Stevenson Ranch Area is just 20 minutes south of downtown Houston. The property adjoins some of the most scenic and challenging trails in Texas.
The Taylor-Stevenson Ranch Area offer two annual guided trailrides each year. We can arrange an extended trailride at the location of your choice.
Whether you are a novice or an expert, we have the ride for you. We will allow you to ride to your skill level. Children 5 and older may actually ride on trail on one of our gentle horses, or be lead-lined by one of our skilled wranglers on the trails. Children under 5 can be hand-led on a beautiful pony around the stable grounds.
It is belived that rodeo began as a competition between neighboring ranch hands to see who could complete daily livestock tasks the fastest and most efficiently. Over the years, the rodeo has evolved into "America's sport". With its roots in the old west, it continues to reinforce and celebrate the western heritage of this country.
Rodeo events fall into two categories: roughstock or timed events. Roughstock events refer to: bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding.
Bill Pickett introduced bulldogging, now better known as steer wrestling, to the world of rodeo entertainment.
Zydeco is alive and well! Bringing the family for a day filled with the best Cajun
Zydeco music, dancing, and delicious Southern and Cajun food. Visit the farm animals, shop specialty vendors and join some dance lessons.
Unlike the restaurants where the majority is there to eat, at Taylor-Stevenson Ranch Area the emphasis is on dancing waltzes and two-steps around a big (and slick) wooden dance floor. You will be amazed at how fast and smooth the dancers are. One bit of advice is bring a partner.
